In the northern part of Holland the province of Friesland is situated. I love it (Fryslân boppe means Friesland is great).
There are many lakes for sailor tourism and great little villages and cities. In 1997 the famous 'Elf stedentocht' was ridden for the last time (no more strong enough ice since than...). 200 Kilometers skating along the 11 Frisian cities in often harsh conditions. Our king, Willem Alexander, also skated this tour incognito. It's also the province were my husband and I met each other while sailing... :-)
