We picked up this Ostrich egg on our recent trip to South Africa and it has a special significance for my husband as he is involved with Helping Rhinos charity. Helping Rhinos aim is to raise awareness of the plight of the rhino by spreading the word as far as they possibly can. For those that are not aware, Rhinos will be extinct before much longer unless those concerned with using the ground horn - which has the same 'make-up' as keratin and therefore useless as a medicine - are made aware of this fact. Since January, 548 rhinos have been poached in Kruger National Park. 89 rhinos in Limpopo, 82 in North West, 79 in KwaZulu-Natal and 77 in Mpumalanga.
