Run the Race...

This shot is my attempt to reflect the fitness, determination and pain it takes to run a fast 5km city race.

The London Great City 5km Race took place last night, it's for both serious competitors and fun runners. It's a fantastic event, have taken part in it myself previously but unfortunately injury prevented me from running this year. This did however afford an opportunity to photograph this amazing spectacle where the streets of the City's Financial district are closed off for a couple of hours for runners of all abilities to test themselves over the 5km distance. For these guys at the front end of the field it's a gruelling experience, The Winner, (not pictured here) came in with a time of 14mins 45 seconds. The runner at the front of this shot finished in 16:20 the runner just behind him ran 16:10 and the third runner pictured finished with a time of 16:16, these two finished in the top 10.

It's my first attempt at road race photography and I have to say it's a very tricky subject! The framing on this shot I know is not ideal. I chose to over process the image to a certain extent to create a little more drama rather than the straight forward out of the camera shot. Any constructive feedback is very welcome as always.
Great shot. Captures the determination of the runners really well

I like the processing, they almost look metallic, machine like, and that is what your words to me said also, so I think this is a very well done personal feeling towards your art

Great capture Ian. It looks like hard work. I get tired just driving my car (in Bangkok in my defence) 5kms.

This looks like a really good shot Ian the expressions are great. I especially like how the middle guy is completely off the ground. I think the processing works ver well too and makes it looks like a image from years ago.
