when I was a teenage kid way back last century in the '60s I used to be able to fix my car when it needed fixing...I couldn't afford to get a mechanic to do it because money was rather scarce so it was a matter of just having a go. Eventually one would gradually learn by trial and error how to get things fixed and those early years have helped me throughout my life to have a go at most things...Ok its now 2016 and I have a modern car that has become so complicated that I just have to walk away and admit defeat...of course the car is safe and a delight to drive but I sometimes miss those old DIY days gone by........ps this is a shot of my cars swoopy headlight....to infinity and beyond...
I know the feeling - my first car was a 1971 Mini and it was completely and utterly fixable at home. When I look under a bonnet these days I think engine compartments have been designed by gynaecologists - there's no way a mans hand is getting in there easily.
@graemestevens Funny you should say that - one of my boys is currently fixing radiators and mufflers - he often bemoans that his hands are too big for the job!
I'm sure there are thousands out there that would echo that sentiment. Now er days everything seems to come as a unit rather than as an individual part and of course a specialist tool is often required too!!
