Victory Gate / Siegestor

The Victory Gate is situated near Ludwig Maximilians University and was designed in the 1840s (like a lot of the other buildings around) by Friedrich von Gärtner who was the architect of the Bavarian king Ludwig I. The gate is the border between two of the central districts of Munich - Maxvorstadt and Schwabing (where I live).
On the front side it reads "To the Bavarian Armed Forces". The gate has been destroyed in the 2nd World War and rebuilt afterwards. Thus, on the backside it says: "Dedicated to victory, destroyed by war, urging to maintain peace".
