Ghost station

York Road is one of a number of abandoned London Underground stations. The station closed in 1932 due to poor passenger numbers, and now Piccadilly Line trains pass straight through and the platforms have been removed. The surface building survived, with its classic Leslie Green design with oxblood-colour tiles, but became increasingly derelict until it was restored in the 1980s. As with most "ghost stations" it is not publicly open but maintained by London Underground to provide maintenance and safety access to the network.
