I love the bell on the top of the train - I wonder if it works? Or do they use it?

Hi Sam, thank you for your interest in my photo's :-) The bell works basically the same as how street running freight trains in the US use their bell. (if you are from the US, you may have seen this). It's a constant bell that warns other traffic in the street of an oncoming train. Although the Stoomtram Hoorn - Medemblik does not have any railway that runs through the street, they do use the bell when coming into a station to warn waiting passengers.. However not all their locomotives have this bell, so I think the use of it is optional.
