The Trans-Amazonian Highway (BR-230) is known as the Rodovia Transamazonica in Brazil.
The third longest highway in Brazil runs through the Brazilian states of Paraiba, Ceara, Piaui, Maranhao, Tocantins, Para and Amazonas; from Saboeiro to Labrea.
The section I travelled on, between Itaituba and Santarem, was still unpaved. Because of the muddy mess created by the rains and deforestation, passengers often had to disembark and help push the bus; if they wanted to get to their destination.
