Peeps are a marshmallow based something (I refuse to call it candy) that are sold in the US, mainly at Easter.
Now I have a sweet tooth, but they are beyond my tastes, and considering the following I think it is just as well...in 1999, a pair of scientists at Emory University—dubbed “Peeps Investigators”— decided to test the theory that Peeps are an indestructible food. In addition to a microwave, the pair tested the candy’s vulnerability to tap water, boiling water, acetone, and sulfuric acid (they survived them all). However on average 5.5 million Peeps are made daily, so someone is eating them! They are not totally indestructible though when the scientist upped the ante and doused them with some Phenol, the only things that didn’t disappear were the eyes.
Oh, this is so great... for the scientific observations alone, plus the photo sparkles. I am in "nerd heaven" on two fronts, photos and chemistry. :) Pretty sparkles, lovely linear composition. Pushing for the purple chicks. :)
Peeps are something of an American institution! There are books abut them and they appear in art installations! Tastes in Peeps range from only liking them fresh (that would be me) to loving them when they get stale (that would be my Canadian neighbour!) The company branched out to fill "the need for Peeps" on every holiday occasion, but these yellow chicks are the Classic!
Have a happy Easter
