Cypress Knees by vernabeth

Cypress Knees

Cypress knees are beautifully formed root structures that grow upwards in the water around the cypress tree. They can take on many unique shapes. Wood carvers sometimes use the knees to make uniques art objects. The wood is beautiful when polished. I have lamp bace made from cypress knees. Types of cypress grow in swampy areas or the banks of rivers. The knees are a way nature has of providing the oxygen needed for the tree.

Cool shot and lesson!
