In Ketchikan, we visited an area where there was a large collection of totems. Many were moved from other locations and some were still being built there. Totems are made from huge trees, often red cedar and are found along the Northwest coast of the US and Canida. Once I thought totems were objects of worship but this is not true. Totems point out differences in tribes and tell stories. Some are even carved as objects of ridicule. Totem poles may recount familiar legends, clan lineages, or notable events. Some poles celebrate cultural beliefs, but others are mostly artistic presentations. I don't know the story on this one but I see at least two duckd which sometimes points to feminine energy and also water. The top one looks a bit like Donald Duck.
