These are called "Robber Flys" here!! They are nasty bugs and if they sting you, it is worse than being stung by 12 wasps!! They have a probe in the front of their heads that they stick into their prey and then suck out their innards!!! I HATE these bugs!! No, @fullcircle, this is the Asilidae, the robber fly family, also called assassin flies. The name "robber flies" reflects their aggressive predatory habits; they eat other insects which they wait in ambush.
