Went for my mammogram. They had a new machine. For the first time...it was practically painless. I actually had to touch the presser to make sure it was not padded somehow. Regardless, glad it is done for one more year. Both of my grandmothers died of breast cancer, so the women in our family really keep up on it.
Good job, Vicki. We must be vigilant in having our mammograms. I smiled when I read: Practically painless--SERIOUSLY. I still remember the sign over the machine: "We compress we care". I always wanted to say I don't mind you compressing but do you have to compress so doggone hard!!!!!
Yikes! My wife is going next week. Wonder if the generations in the future will put this procedure in the same category as how we look at blood letting today.
@skipt07 I asked my doctor the same thing. A while back there was a spot that looked suspicious, and they did a sonogram. I asked why they don't just do that in the first place. He said that the different methods detect different things, so once they see a spot on mamo, then they follow up with the sono to know what they have...
I have an annual mammogram as my Mum died of breast cancer when she was only 43. My two sisters and myself had all had scares too which luckily turned out ok and my maternal Grandfather also had breast cancer. Well done for highlighting this as it's so important that we all need to get this done. Uncomfortable it may be but it certainly saves lives xx
Have been having them done for the last 16 years, for the same reason, my great grandmother, grandmother (she survived ) and now my mums sister is getting treatment at the moment...hope you got the all clear!!
Yup, actually a few times this summer during major scare which luckily turned out ok. Glad you got clear too! Hoping to get to try this painless thingy next year :)
@anndee it was a different one for sure! that 'head' moved! I had to hold my breath until it got to a certain point, breath fast...but not move and then hold until it got back to where it started. it was fast moving tho
@mstipe@ladyjane I hope you don't wait to get it started! my doctor had me start a little earlier than most because of family history. don't wait, if they find cancer, the sooner the better to recover.
@pammerritt I am pretty sure your every three months was similar to my experience...the last two years, I have had to have two biopsies, then follow up mammos to make sure all is ok...hopefully this year the news will be all clear. I assume that since I have not heard back from the Monday appt, that it is normal. They usually call immediately if they see something abnormal. hope yours stay clear too!
I'm glad they have found a less painful method. I still don't know why sonograms wouldn't do the same thing?
