Christmas: Day 9
These are my favorite ornaments, the MOST favorite of all is the little bell, it is called the HUMDINGER. My grandmother had it on her tree when I was little and each Christmas she would lift me (the other grandkids as well, I am sure, but I only remember it being me that got the honor) up to ding it and then she would tell me all about it being her hummmmdinger and we would laugh. It was passed on to my Mother and she carried on with the grandkids getting to ding it. A few years ago, when I became a Grandmother, she passed it on to me and I have continued making sure to make a big deal out of each of them getting to ring the Humdinger. The reindeer and elf (evil elf it looks like) were from the tree when I was a little girl...there is something very unique about those '50s plastic ornaments, isn't there? The santa is made from an egg. I made two dozen egg ornaments for my tree the first year I was married. On the left are a clothespin girl and soldier that my Mother painted for me and my sisters a few years ago.
Wow, Vicki, that is not a simple decoration. There is so much memory and history in those objects. It is beautiful to have so many memorable things passed from generation to the next. Gorgeous capture of the lot.
Just gorgeous Vicki! Love the flocked tree too - I grew up with my parents flocking our tree every year in the garage and dragging it in the house to much anticipation!
Oh, Vicki. I love this so much. So wonderful to have ornaments from your grandmother and your mother. Sadly, I do not have any like that. Having those kinds of memories are such a treasure.
