@anndee Renaissance women didn't have microwaves....it takes 10 minutes...done...I made peanut brittle and almond roca....saving popcorn balls to make when the grandkids stay with me later this week.
@yonnie I always use the thermometer for a guide, but it never is as good to me as the drop of candy into cold water to taste and test. it takes too long to register when you can only stick it in now and then to test, by the time it registers, you have lost cooking time, it cools down and mess it up, I am sure that there is a thermo out there to leave in while cooking, but i forget to look each until it is time to make the candy, by then it is too late, I want to make my candy NOW...not after a trip to the store.
Cool shot with all of the "christmas" in the background... nice. Impressive skill to have as well... making candy, that would be my downfall. I have to pretend I cant bake either so I do not grow two butts!
Way to go, Vicki. .. I am a peanut brittle maker, as well - and I agree that nothing beats dropping the hot candy into the cold water to check your progress! The advent of the microwave really changed candy-making!
I need to try my Mom's peanut butter fudge. I have succeeded - but lately only grainy failures........not one of my high spots.
