We took a ferry from Athens to get to the Island of Sifnos. After arriving we hopped on the local bus that brought us to the town where we are staying. When we walked up to the place, an older woman came out to greet us as if she were our long lost aunt. She grabbed me and did the kiss kiss on each side of my face and then shook John's hand holding on with both of her hands like she was not going to let go. All the while she was chattering in Greek. She grabbed my bag and pulled it around back to the room. If she speaks any English it is not evident at all. She did a quick run-through on the room showing us everything, then took my hand and pulled me next-door to the restaurant. Her son is the owner of this place and the restaurant. She stood there waiting and waiting while we talked to the owner and just grinned and seemed so excited to have us here. ( I wonder how much he pays her for that arrival bit. lol) Exactly what I heard about Greek people! So far I have been so impressed with how over and above friendly everyone has been since we first arrived in Greece, not just here. I LOVE this place! WHY am I on the internet?????
We have the saying: living as a God in France . You chance it to : living as a God in Greece. ( When living is great for you)
Lovely story, beautiful pic.
Gorgeous photo, Vicki, and GREAT story! As I've mentioned on FB, Dan & I visited Sifnos years ago and remember it as one of our favorite spots anywhere! Enjoy & keep posting those photos!
