Another day, another black and white portrait. After work I went for a workout, and I bought my camera and tripod with me into my home gym. I planned on taking a few photos of my gloved fist hitting my punching bag. It didn't really come off for a multitude of reasons, so I took a few photos of me working out.
Perhaps this image is a little narcissistic, but I quite like it. I had to crank up the ISO because the lighting wasn't very good, but also because I wanted a grainy look to give it a raw, gritty feel (à la Rocky - the first one, not the increasingly dreadful sequels!)
Using my 50mm lens frustrated me again. Although in some ways I really like the lens, it doesn't focus particularly well. Also on my camera it's actually an 80mm, which is often a bit too close to the subject matter for my style of photography. I'm starting to enjoy the intimate portraiture I'm doing, so perhaps the 28mm f/1.8 lens is the way to go (which is equivalent to a 45mm on my camera). If you have it or have used it, please let me know!

nice shot vik... very rocky. Yeah I have a 50mm and have the same issue... when I'm in the studio and want to take a full length shot I just feel too far away from the subject to connect. I havent gotten the 28mm lens but I really want to get one
before I read the caption I thought: Man, he looks like Rocky! No lies. Keep it up! This is a really nice shot, and it does have a great raw, edgy, feeling.
Nice portrait by they way. My husband lifts, and I'm trying to talk him into letting me in his "gym" with the camera, but so far it's a no :-(
