Advance to GO by vikdaddy

Advance to GO

I'm still nursing a hangover after an epic night out. To paraphrase Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover's character) in Lethal Weapon, perhaps I'm getting too old for this s**t.

It didn't help that I lots of stuff to do today too. After a long day I came home tonight to find a Monopoly board. It was a gift for Suman from her big sister.

This set-up wasn't from an actual game of Monopoly. I set up the board and pieces in a variety of ways and I was most satisfied with this one. I last played the game on the Nintendo Wii with my little cousin Dhillon; he's seven, so he was categorically beaten!

I've got a busy week this week at work. I'll be working in Leeds and Hull on Tuesday and Manchester on Thursday. They could be good opportunities for some shoots in cities I'm less familiar with than Nottingham, providing I can find the time on those days.

Canon 7D, f/9, 1/100, ISO-100
Love the look of this... Monopoly is a great game and I just love the old warm feel of this shot

Great shot! Such a classic feel for a classic game. Looks like the currency AND property names are regional. Very cool!

Very nice!!! Looove the colouring.
January 16th, 2011
Cool shot. I've never seen a European Monopoly board before.

What I like most about this is that the set is not one of those new plastic piece sets. The old wooden houses and metal playing pieces are so much nicer! (I have an old set upstairs!). Great composition. (and a hotel on Mayfair? someone's in the money!! LOL)

Like the shot and hear you on the "too old for this shit" marlarkey... long gone are the days when a booze up never affected me the following day...
January 16th, 2011
Love this. Such a classic old feel to it :)
January 16th, 2011
I like the "Old" feel of the shot. And it never occurred to me to think that there would be different version of the game for different places.
January 16th, 2011
I love the color and composition. Nicely done!
January 16th, 2011
Great composition.

Now a hotel on Mayfair ...that's worth having! Nice concise shot - almost urges me to play again!

I loved Monopoly as a child. So this is a fav - both for photographic awesomeness and nostaligia value. :D

(Can't have two houses on Whitechapel without at least one on Old Kent! :P)

@pocketmouse Oh yeah!
January 16th, 2011
Love it!
January 17th, 2011
This looks great, the old monopoly is the best. Not these new fangled 3D ones you get nowadays. I'll keep an eye out for you on Tuesday!
January 17th, 2011
Love this game. I like how you made it look so classic. Awesome shot.
January 17th, 2011
Wow! This is amazing. Love the composition :D

Very nostalgic, too!

January 17th, 2011
cool composition, vik...very nicely done!
January 17th, 2011
Cool shot, nice processing . . . looks like the 60s!
January 17th, 2011
@vikdaddy hello! this is what I'm trying to learn, how are you able to get such bokeh even with small aperture? :)
January 17th, 2011
I love monopoly - rarely get to play - so I totally love this shot. Love the lighting - gives it such a warm, cozy feeling.
January 17th, 2011
@marvzz Hey Marvin, I'm not sure where you can see bokeh, so I assume you mean the narrow depth of focus...?
January 17th, 2011
@vikdaddy yea the blurring
January 18th, 2011
Beautiful ! Love how you captured this, the composition and the light. And it's fun to see a Monopoly with a different currency :)
January 18th, 2011
cool shot!
January 18th, 2011
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Monopoly, but can you believe they're now making it without Monopoly money!? I think they have a new "debit card" kinda thing. Monopoly isn't Monopoly without Monopoly money.

@itszaiii that's a greater sacrilege than... than... than remaking the A-Team into a film.

Well, no, but y'know.

Ace shot, muted colours and focus is well toasty

Hahahaha hangovers are hard! but sounds like it was an awsome night! good for you.. love the photo!
January 26th, 2011
@vikdaddy thanks for this :) I just noticed your focal length... you shot at 59mm :) very nice!
February 1st, 2011
@vikdaddy so that'll be x1.6 crop factor?
February 1st, 2011
@marvzz yes, so not true 59mm - more like 94-95mm
