I remembered an important lesson tonight; less is definitely more. I took lots of photos in Nottingham's Market Square as it's 'Light Night', when many of our landmarks are illuminated. Over the past week or so the Wheel of Nottingham has been set up to circulate over the city centre, and it's an obvious subject to photograph at night.
The reason why I was reminded was because I took 101 photos, mainly of the big wheel. I was initially in auto-pilot, using my ultra-wide angle to capture as much of the scenery and the wheel as possible. I was shooting away, but something didn't seem right; it was because I was trying to capture too much. I then put on my mid-range zoom lens and began taking photos of just parts of the wheel, and immediately I was more pleased.
I have to remember that just because something looks great in person it won't necessarily translate in a photo, that simplicity is paramount and photography is the art of exclusion. A couple of my other photos from tonight on my Flickr account highlight how less is definitely more ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/vikdaddy/).
Although I had my tripod in the boot of my car, I decided against bringing it and instead increased the ISO to let my camera become more sensitive to light. It was definitely the right decision, considering the subject I was shooting was lit up!
I was walking to the gym after work and realised I'd forgotten something. I didn't bring a top to wear, so I decided to pop into a nearby clothes store to buy a cheap vest or something. Instead, I walked out with a fairly expensive designer t-shirt and hooded top! I must stop buying so many clothes...

nice shot Vik... as someone who needs no excuse to miss the gym, not having the kit would have meant a trip straight back home and a good excuse to be lazy...
