The last in my series of Mauritius shots, certainly for the near future. This is the view from the other side of the bridge. The opposite side was the greenery that I photographed and posted a few days ago.
I'm giving serious thought to quitting this site. There's a few people on here that I'd miss, either for their work or their communal contribution, but I'm not getting the value from this site that I used to. I used to get really excited about posting my work and reading my comments, but for whatever reason I'm not getting any where near as much exposure as I used to, and very little feedback except for a consistent few. And let's be honest, we all post photos here to get a response.
I have a few theories as to why I'm not getting the kudos I used to. I don't post lengthy commentaries to accompany my images like I used to (and like this one!) I don't comment as much as I used to either - when I started I tried to reciprocate as often as I could, but now I just comment when a photo really captures my attention. Third, I don't always post photos I've taken on the day; often they're just images from my archives. And finally, I think this site has passed a critical mass where it's no longer a small online community, so there's less time for people to spend admiring people's photos. I wonder if my experience is similar to others here, or is it just me and the fact that I spend less time taking photos and less time on this site overall? What's your thoughts?
Anyway, I want to thank those that continue to praise and comment on my photos; I think I'll continue to visit and post sporadically in the mean time, and I'll see how it goes (one thing I will promise is that I won't start a pointless thread informing my followers of my decision - how annoying are they?!) I'm going to continue posting on my Flickr account ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/vikdaddy/), so maybe I'll see some of you over there. Adios, for now!
Semi-professional photographer based in Nottingham, England, I shoot mainly events and weddings. I'll be posting my work using my Fujis - X100S and X-Pro1.

This is beautiful. And I have to agree with what you said... I just started year 2, and aside from maybe one shot, I feel like my pictures get very few views and comments on a regular basis. I try to comment on other people's pictures, which sometimes helps. And p.s. I don't know if this helps, but I happened to see the photo on my home page, but I can't even remember the last time I saw one of your photos on my home page. Maybe your posting time is not the time your followers are on? Just a thought... But yeah, I do understand what you mean. I feel the same way most days.
Don't think you should quit mate and I think the old time regulars will agree, I think you've raised some good points and no doubt all valid, lots of people post archive work and still get comments. Although surely some exposure is better then none, I follow you on Flickr but rarely go on it as to get any comments on that you have to be put in some serious ground work! Likewise perhaps if you were to comment on stuff yea you might get more back but the again why comment just for the sake of it unless the photo really stands out! I don't think you're work has dropped, would be nice to see some candies or model work from you...may be less landscapes shots?! And pass through now and again, but yes the community has grown lots in the past year to ger noticed, some of the big names I just don't even follow! Just my tuppence worth.
@eliserose781@azza_l Thanks for spending time to give a considered response. Aaron, maybe I'll try posting some different images like some portraits, etc from my old RAW files, I have hundreds I haven't even touched!
Same here that's why I mainly post archives...as always have lots taken in one go, which also tell me I don't put the effort in to shooting everyday! Hence why i never truly completed the whole 'daily' picture thing. But it's still nice to post work and recieve the odd comment, whether it be banter or just a standard comment. Anyway may be take a break then get back in to it, cheers.
Hey mate... yeah i'll give it a go, tho had to disable the email link as got flooded with flippin messages when I first did the thread a few weeks back...
Maybe a break a way will re-ignite your 365 mojo...
Vik, I'd like to see you back on here doing the whole 365 thing like you were before that "thread" thing and the flu last year or whenever it was. But I understand if you can't be bothered. You'd be missed though if you slipped away for good!
@rich57 Thanks Rich, appreciate your comment. I just can't commit all that time that I did back then. It was fun, but so time consuming! I'll continue to post, but I'll do it in batches, like today! Maybe one day I'll start again...
@vikdaddy I know what you mean about time and commitment, I've just had three days working down in London and met up with Andy C and Aaron which was awesome and great for photo ops but now I'm back home and tired and haven't picked up my camera all day and know I'm going to nip outside for today's shot soon and i'm not looking forward to it!
