Baby Turbo Chook

The Tasmanian Native Hen
This was hard to get as soon as mum spots any sign of danger, she gives off a noise to warn her chick & off it goes into the bushes. Turbo chook is our nickname for these birds, they are very amusing when they run flat out. They are flightless bird so it's legs & wings everywhere
Oh what a sweet shot. Amazing how protective mamas are in most of nature, eh.

they look very similar to our gallinule or moorhen. are they akin with them? it's really hard to get a picture of them because they are so shy and their black feathers come only out in perfect light. you have done well!

@aristide Gallinula mortierii or moorhen are their other names so they would be close, I reckon. They became extinct on the mainland & are only find here in Tassie
