I came across Miss Dudleigh when I was scrolling down my wall on facebook, she was looking for a new home.
My husband had been saying he wanted a puppy for a few months, she wasn't a puppy, puppy as she was six months old. I asked. he said yes.....the owners had little ones and she was too bouncy for them that was their reasoning for re-homing her.
And bouncy she was, only due to a lack of discipline as far as i could see and as i was putting her in the car i knew i had my work cut out for me and hubby may not be impressed with her behaviour.
This is where her name came from, he took one look and said she was a dud and that is what she should be called. Much to my disgust and the arguing Edward and him decided on Dudleigh and i wasn't allowed to change it because she was intentionally going to be his dog.
Funnily enough within a week she was actually reacting to the name so I gave in, her original name Arlo, she never came or reacted to and we didn't like it
She got tied up that night and not a peep and hasn't made one since we have had her....good dog. The most barking she does is when she wants you to play with her and her old boot.
Dudleigh's behaviour certainly didn't impress the man of the house so it was up to me to try and train her. She could sit...good dog, and then she could jump, jump, jump, it took a good long six months but she learned who was master and started to turn into a well behaved (over excitable) dog.
Now we get to her boot, we didn't think to get her toys and hubby in his infinite wisdom gave her an old work boot of his. I didn't think it was a great idea as she may get the taste for our other footwear but she proved me wrong....good dog
This is boot number three - chew toy, go fetch toy and chasing toy all rolled into one. We come back from a walk, she runs ahead and grabs it for fetch. We walk out the back door, she fetches it for a chase game, she never gives it up. This one will end up like the others just a rubber sole.
My husband did mention once, now that you have trained her she can be my dog, you can imagine how i replied
I knew six months ago she is my dog...... the walk along side and not wandering to far away walk, the sitting at my feet waiting for me to stop taking photos, the gentleness to come close for a human cuddle and bringing me her boot for a play......good dog
Beautiful picture and beautiful dog! Funny how people think a dog will tolerate the humans declaring who in the family they belong to! Dogs know better!
What a sweet capture and lucky dog to find her forever home. Love. Dogs gravitate with who spends the most time with them, who feeds them, who plays with them, who shows them affection. Dudleigh is a feminine version of the name Dudley.
