quilting

After Marianne and I invited ourselves to Shannon’s house for the weekend, Shannon let me use her machine to quilt my Sarah Fielke quilt, which, of course, was my evil plan all along. I could never have quilted this monster on my little Viking. Finished most of the red parts and a few of the leaves. I’ll have to invite myself back probably two or three more times to finish it.
Good job! What kind of machine? Looks like it might be a mid-arm Bernina?

@margonaut Yes? It is a Bernina— I think Q16. My regular machine is a Viking and I’ve always struggled with the Bernina, but I think I got the hang of it after awhile.

@wiesnerbeth I've never used the "new" Berninas. My newest one (15 years old) was damaged when Jack got caught up in the cords and pulled it off the table. Still haven't had it repaired. The one I'm using now is the 930 from at least 35 years ago, it's amazing. Vintage Bernina is the way to go IMHO. The new ones are so complicated and apparently very touchy. In fact, the way I got my Sweet 16 was because my friend got the Bernina that you used and didn't need it anymore. That space makes a huge difference doesn't it?

@margonaut This quilt is humongous (for me! — 96 inches square). There is no way I could have quilted it on my regular machine. It does have way more “technical” things on it but it was pretty easy to use — so far.

@wiesnerbeth That IS huge! The big quilts I've done have taken a toll on my shoulders. It's good that you're not doing it all at once. Gives your body a little time to recuperate.

@margonaut So far it been my butt that is most painful — her chair is really uncomfortable!
