Sad Lesson To Learn

I put this photo NOT because I like it - I burned my camera while taking this photo. Below is my post in the General Discussion to share my experience:
“I am having so much fun doing sun flare challenge. But I burned my camera sensor. I was taking a crane with bright sunshine behind it. To protect my eyes, I only faced my camera to it and then....I heard a churning sound.
I have been warned in a photography workshop about the danger of facing the sunlight. Now I learned my lesson”
Oh no! I have never heard of such a thing. I will go and read your experience. Thank you for sharing it. I am so sorry!!

I am so sorry about your camera! Will you be able to get that fixed? Do you know if there are filters to protect your camera if you want to take a shot like this? Thank you for sharing your experience here so that others won't make the same mistake.

@olivetreeann @pflaume Thank you. The sun was too bright to shoot and I will not do it again. Filter may help but I am far too scared. I believe that the camera will be fixed. In the meantime, I will borrow my husband camera that is in dormant right now.

Oh, I'm SOOOO sorry to hear this!! I know we have to be careful about sun, but I feel terrible that you have had our sensor burned. I'll be thinking of you and hoping the repair is quick and not too costly. thank you for posting in the thread -- you may save others this heartache.

@taffy Thank you. I was warned but I hardly take people’s warning seriously, a lesson for me to learn.

I'm sorry about your camera, are your eyes okay at least? Thanks for sharing this because I was thinking of taking more direct sun pictures as well.

Wow.....and I was doing the same thing today. Camera is still okay though....I think.

Sorry to hear about the camera. Hope its not too costly a repair.

Sorry to hear this Yao and it's a lesson to us all. Let's hope you are up and running again soon.

@teamquavers II was conscious about the warning on the potential eye damage, so I positioned my camera without looking at the viewfinder.

Oh dear. That's bad news :(
But I think sharing your experience on here will probably warn others about these types of thing to be careful about. Hope you can fix your camera.

I actually like the way the photo turned out! sorry to hear about the damage to your camera though. Hope you can get it fixed all right.

@savannah51 The sun I was shoot against was a bright lunch time sun. It must happened in the moment when the camera failed to be blocked by the crane.

That is awful. I haven't heard of this either and take sun pictures often. I will be more careful now. Thanks for sharing.

Oh my goodness! I am so sorry that happened to you. I've pointed my camera in the direction of the sun while squinting my eyes as well. Had no idea this is hard on one's camera. I have lots to learn. Thanks for educating us.

Sad, very sad. Anyway, if you don't have a spare - I can give you one of my old cameras, I've got 3Mpx Nikon and 5Mpx Konica Dimage Z3 (I think), which is 4 Mpx. If y0u are temporary going for a small point and shot - buy Canon, I will show you how to take timelapse, RAW, Night shots, lighting photos, motion detection and so on.

You are very kind, I am using my husband's camera right now. Thank you for your offer. I did not realise a little point and shot Canon can do that much. @axces2000

That's Canon Hack Development Kit.
My starry sky and timelapse are taken with a very basic camera, which I bought for $45
July 10th, 2013
$45!? that is insane.
July 10th, 2013
So sorry that happened too you - we tend to forget the things that can go wrong when we get absorbed in taking photos.
