Today I went to the Temple of Eternal Spring - a Taoist Temple, its origin was built in 741A.D. Here I saw Taoism practitioners, they look so surreal. I saw people lighting incense earnestly and making their wishes, I saw a wall of sculptures teaching people to behave ethically. This one seems saying if you greedy for food, your eyes are going to hurt. Sorry, it is very hard to be on a diet in Beijing.
I bought its book of Ethics, 81 chapters teaching me how to behave, I will, when I am back to New Zealand.
81 chapters telling you how to behave? That doesn't sound fun at all. I think when you are on holiday greed should not be a concern. My favourite picture is the one of the man with the beard.
It night not go well in NZ if your activities are totally based on Chinese ethics when you return!! I'm so interested in your choice of photos to post and would like to investigate further!
I love how one can access spiritual thought so easily out in the open in China. I need to reflect on the Tao - I remember reading and studying it when I was taking my Masters and gravitated to its teachings.
I have a deep admiration for anyone who is devoted to their religion whether or not I believe as they do. 81 chapters of ethics seems overwhelming! How could anyone live up to that? But faith when it's in the right place in our lives does compel us to follow the tenets it presents. Mine is simply, love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength; and do unto others as you would have done unto you. That's hard enough!! I can't imagine 81 chapters!! Bless you Yao for wanting to read and learn!!
