New Era by yaorenliu

New Era

Holiday is about to finish, I am so reluctant to show these photos. To me, they are foreign objects planted in Beijing. But… Get over it! Here are: National Opera House, Capital Museum and a sculpture outside Hilton Hotel.
Great colourful collage of the new Beijing. I think we all feel this, probably to a lesser extent, about new constructions in our old cities but I'm actually beginning to embrace the new architecture. Our old favourite buildings were often seen as horribly new when they first went up.

My father is an architect and he loves new buildings. He is not impressed with my attitude toward new architecture. In fact, I don’t dislike them. I made a special trip to Bilbao to see the Guggenheim museum – and very impressed.

@janetoner Do you mean Guggenheim in Bilbao?

I've not seen that - but no - i meant the buildings in your collage

@janetoner you are right, it is large - more than 5000 seats can be hosted at the same time.

juxtaposition of old and new...even sharon simpson touched on it today with her pic of a book and a kindle...your pics always seem to provoke discussion not well suited to this forum!

@ianrm that is how I met some interesting people.

They look too pompous! It seems incredible if our descendants will consider such architecture as a classic buildings! Am I getting old? :)
Anyway, I'm glad to see China constructing its power in such patterns of modern buildings!

Enjoy your final days in China; we all appreciate seeing it through your photos.

Do you mean foreign because of their style? I can see that. It has been wonderful to see China through your pictures. Although you don't want to leave, I can see you have memories that will be with you forever, and in that way, so will China. Great collage and wishing you safe travels once again!

Beautiful photos. so nice to see the new Beijing. It isn't the picture we would imagine is it. As long as there is a mixture of old and new I think I would be able to cope with it.
I love old buildings and coming from the UK to Australia there isn't any building anywhere here as old as in the UK. I miss that very old sometimes, but the new is very creative too.

@olivetreeann Thank you for your comment as always. yes, i meant the style. Especially the opera house. The Dome looks like coming from outer space. It is so refective under the sun. But the space inside is amazing.

@onewing UK, especially London is a great place hosting great old and new architectures.

Beautiful images, even if they are not your China. I have really enjoyed all the photos and commentary you have shared here. Thank you!

beautiful shapes, colours and textures. I can see your point though - modern architecture seems to be the same the world over, and in a lot of ways, traditional architecture is far more interesting. Beautiful collage!

They may not look as if they belong there but they are lovely anyway. I do know what you mean though. I get a bit titchy when I see over modern objects displayed in my home town. They will never belong there in my eyes but my sons don't notice the misfit. Lovely collage.

I like the mix of old and new that China has become. I hope it holds on to the history and heritage though. There should be an even balance between the two. The opera house looks interesting, it must have awesome acoustics inside.

All amazing structures beautifully photographed. Sometimes modern buildings, which seem incongruous and out of place at first, settle in to be a natural part of the cityscape. Sometimes it just takes time ..........and sometimes they are just horrible :-)

The world does change. I am enjoying looking back at the looks of the decades in my lifetime. Can't get into a rut or bored with the status quo. I love the red on the right. The lines are beautiful.
