Nuthatch? by ziggy77

Nuthatch?

Not seen one of these at the garden feeder before. Quite nice to see a different Bird which after a search I believe is a Nuthatch. The photo has a huge crop this is the bottom left hand corner approx 25%
Yes, a Red-breasted Nuthatch! What a thrill for you to see a new species at your place! They are not common here; but a few Winters ago, some showed up in our area. A shortage of food up north forced them southward into our range that Winter, and all of us birdlovers were delighted!

Lucky you. Yes its a Nuthatch and wonderful to get it in your garden, keep the feeders full, and he should return. Once they find a feeder they do tend to use it time after time. They are not that fussy, but seem to like peanuts, sunflower seeds and sunflower hearts.

@markp thanks Mark, must be the sunflower seeds then.

Very good focus as this is cropped so much. He's a cute wee bird - not much of a tail!
