I have a new toy to play with (but as I type He's playing with the wireless capability on the tablet!!). It has 2 lenses one that goes18-135 mm and a cute little 50mm prime (but think can't use for current nifty fifty challenge as probably really a 75mm).
This is the last to be photo taken with His 10 year old Pentax.
@vignouse Richard am I right in thinking the 50mm is really a 75mm?? It says 1:1.8 50mm on its side. I am really enjoying your 50mm challenge- it's making me really concentrate beofre I click
The '50mm' is a 50mm ! The apparent change in mm occurring because you do/do not have a full size sensor is beside the point. If the challenge is to shoot with a 50mm lense end of! ( the 1:1.8 refers to the macro capability. True macro is 1:1 (life size) or larger, resolution) It gets more complicated ..that's as far as I can do the techy bit!
I find it best to forget the sensor size if you never shot 35mm film in old cameras you don't need to learn what a digital sensor will do/need to mimic that, just use the kit, learn what it will do in your hands and enjoy it!
@30pics4jackiesdiamond@wylieclicks Hi Jackie - congratulations on the new toy, you're going to have lots of fun with that. Hi to you too Sheila - now let me try to clarify a few points. First all the information about the challenge can be found here - https://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/30294/nf-sooc-september-2017 - including the reasons why I do this every year. The challenge is to shoot with an effective focal length of 50mm (35mm on an APS-C sensor for example) so that there is a common point of comparison between everone's images. Can you use your 50mm? Of course you can but as it is effectively a short telephoto you may find it more limiting in general usage. That said, you'll still get all the learning that comes from using one focal length for the month and no editing or cropping. Join in if you wish, ignore it if you don't! Finally the 1/1.8 on your new lens has nothing to do with its maximum magnification - it means that its maximum aperture is f/1.8. Hope this helps ;-))
@wendyfrost I shall thank you
@olivetreeann first one later today
@robz it does Editting too!!!!!
