This little guy is no Frosty (of yesteryear's fame around here) but he wants you to know he's a pretty good stand-in and he's happy to work for peanuts! He posed for photos and, along with peanuts, I gave him a nice tip in the form of a bowl-full of sunflower seeds. He was awfully cute, so I think he'll go on to the next round.
I call him "Nipper" because he's missing a notch out of his left ear. (Did you know that Nipper was the name of the dog of RCA Victor Phonograph fame who "listened to his Master's Voice"? How's THAT for trivia?!)
@tj22 Perhaps you're aware that squirrels come in a wide variety of colouration across the states and in Canada (where they're quite small, though in the Vancouver area of Canada, they're solid black!) This is what we have in our next of the woods!
He's almost a red squirrel like Nutkin. yes I do know about little Nipper. My grandpa had a radio with him on it and when my son went London his first job was at the HMV shop. I managed to find him a small china Nipper. another great animal pose
Cute! I've not seen one that colour before. We have a few black ones here in Cambridge UK, but most in the UK are grey. Would love to see a real red one in the wild.
He is a begger from the looks of him. Awesome, cute capture..... He, too, is just TOO cute..... What happened to Frosty? What's this little guy's name?
@aglennc Frosty left last year about the time she'd left to have babies each year; we haven't seen her in nearly a year now :( Sure do miss her friendly personality...
@Weezilou I didn't know that about squirrels. The closest thing we have to squirrels would be possums which are treated as a pest as they damage native trees and eat the eggs of our native birds. It's funny, cos just over the Tasman Sea, in Australia, possums are a protected species!
@tj22 The possums in Australia are adorable! Our possums are not at all attractive (though one 365 members sent me to a FB site showing someone he knows raising a possum as a house pet...and it was quite cute!) I recall on one night tour the guide was looking for an animal (in NZ) to show us but he couldn't find one...can't recall the name but it wasn't "possum". I think all the world finds it intriguing how unusually the animals of Australia and NZ evolved. (and from one side of your sea to the other!)
@Weezilou I wonder what animal your guide was looking for. If you remember please let me know. My son also had a pet possum, they are very cute and can be trained to be very friendly.
@tj22 Do you know what the American possums look like? People sometimes mistake them for really-large rats! I would adopt one of your possums in a minute...they're fluffy and adorable! And actually, squirrels like this can be trained and a number of people have them for pets (lots of youtube videos). I've got a few as well...this has been well-liked https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xq39bKUjoDw
