I was running out of "backyard animals" to share when I came across this old photo (about 2003). Before Ken retired, I'd been in Lunenburg, and when I arrived home, he said he had something for me to see! That evening, roosting in a tree, there was our newest guest! We don't know where he came from and, after 2+ weeks, we weren't sure where he went. I'd named him "Beau Dandy", bought some proper food for him from a Feed & Grain Store and enjoyed the beauty he lent to the yard! He and the cats set their parameters at the start!
In time we heard stories about how he'd visited throughout the surrounding area, staying awhile & moving on. A year later a friend, about 8 blocks away, was showing me her photos, and there was Beau in her yard! Of course I "exclaimed!" and she replied, "You know that peacock?!" and I told his story once again.
Over 40+ years, we've had a number of animals, find their way to our yard. I photograph them for posterity and let them decide if they're staying or moseying along...
That's amazing! Peacocks are indigenous to Nova Scotia? ;-) My favorite part of your story is imagining you going into the Feed and Grain Store and asking, "yes, where is your peacock feed?"
@stray_shooter I know no shame! Remember Steinberg's on Edinger? They were fully stocked with all sorts of animal feed...even sent me right to the peacock food ;)
Thisi guy is so beautiful. There is a neighborhood n the Palos Verdes area that has dozens of peacocks roaming free. Friends of our live there, I guess they can be pretty loud at times, from what they've said. But it would be fun...... for awhile, at least.
@jyokota Were he here today, I'd certainly be photographing him a great deal more!
