It’s nesting time, but far be it to me to speculate about this menage a trois! They’ve been spending most of the recent week here, and today they ventured to the patch of lawn, investigating underneath the plants and bushes. I look at this photo and can only imagine the caption to read, “The Realtor 'nagged' them to snap up the property with a waterfront view and 24 hour groceries within easy reach.” The speculation was that property management would offer move-in materials and provide armed guards against marauders in this gated community.
@allie912 Mallard ducks are so prevalent, I thought everyone recognized them! The males have the green heads and the females are always brown. When molting season is underway, the males lose their coloration and resemble the females for a while. (Ken, who raised Mallards on the family farm when he was a child is giving me this information!) He said that even when the males lose their beautiful colors, their beaks stay the greenish color, which is how you'll then tell them apart from the females!
@salza@chard I got that horse years ago at a charity auction...they'd been made in Mexico. A friend got one and keeps it inside so it won't rust... I immediately set it in the yard and couldn't wait for it to get some patina and rust! Thanks for liking it!
Love your commentary. Great shot! Now you've added duck to the fold...... Your zoo animals must have a super grapevine -- They keep their friends informed, and here they come.
