The Maritime Way

Before coming to Nova Scotia, I wouldn't have imagined that people could converse about "hanging a line" as they do here!

"It just smells better if it's hung in the sunshine!"

"Not only like colours, but like items (in graduated sizes) should be hung together!"

I've even heard that a newcomer was a bit chastised for not hanging "a proper line"!!!

Sorry folks... I'll sort my garbage, and turn off lights, but I throw the wet laundry into a dryer and that's fine by me! No way I can spend all that time hanging a proper line and risking ridicule by a local!

Different strokes for different folks!

(And yes, I've posted a photo akin to this some years ago, and I know how important line-dried clothes are to some. As for me, I think they make lovely pictures!)

xo
Well you have sorted all the washing according to size! A great background!

lol I do kind of sort mine too, I can't imagine living with a 'line to hang' :)

I line dry my laundry but I just hang it in the order it comes out of the basket.

@salza That at least makes complete sense to me, Sally!

@salza Same here - my mother can barely entertain the thought of using a dryer and has only bought one recently for emergencies... Why spend all that money on it and then rarely use it I don't know....

Cool shot. I used to line dry. I could not figure out what to do with the fabric softener, hang it on the line, or toss it in the yard.

I think it makes a lovely picture too Louise but I am afraid I am a clothesline person if possible. I cant wait for warm summer days when the clothes blow around on the line and dry very quickly. They smell so gorgeous. However, I really appreciate my dryer in the cold wetter months.

Love the colors !

That is the reddest red ever! Beautiful range of color!

hahahaha
I do think clothes seem fresher in a summer breeze but could never be bothered with co-ordinating colour and size - I can't believe people do that! I like the line because I stretch the clothes out like they're on a rack - I hate ironing too hahahaha! I do use a dryer regularly - socks and undies don't like clothes lines lol

@tjsworld You must have missed my stories about "Lunenburg Red" by Benjamin Moore! It has a very strong presence around here!

I get this! And what a lovely image. We hang out our washing in Scotland (when it's not raining ... that is!). And I too love to see it all hanging out in a coordinated manner. However, I love the convenience of the tumbler dryer but feel guilty using it! In Croissy sur Seine, where we currently live, in the Parisian suburbs, you are not allowed to hang out washing. Can you believe that? No ma'am! So, I'm forced to tumble dry here and keep my wash line for holidays in Scotland! You'll appreciate this image which I took in June on my cycle ride from Paris to Strasbourg :

Strange - it doesn't want to include the link! Anyway if you're interested, it's on my odds and sods album, 3rd June. I'll try the link again, just in case :

Nope, no link! :-(

i once lived in a place where we used a wringer washer and clothes line, what a chore!
October 20th, 2016
@chard ahhh...I remember we had a wringer washer, too, when I was about 6...barrel body with the wringer on top! Thanks for the memory...and the reason I like to think it's good to take advantage of new technology! (I can do without a cell phone-by choice-, but must have a dryer!)

love it

Wonderful!

Ina always still do so. In the garden or , by rain , the the attic. The only problem in the open air are the birds. Special the dove`s as there is a tree nearby. Sometimes some of the was has to be done twice. We have a kind of marry go round ? to save place.
Love you pic. Special that nice house/barn .
