Only Hardy Souls Need Apply

The rocks in this region are over 600 million years old... They've frozen and thawed, been battered by the sea and buffeted by the winds! I think that goes for the people who live here as well!

On this mid-June day we didn't see anyone out in shorts, but we did see smoke rising from chimneys.

So not Southern California!

*** See Pam's photos for other views of the same area. As I come to photos I want to share, I just go with it, as it would be impossible for me to "pick a favourite or 'the best'"! This is so unlike any other place I've ever been!

Looks beautiful but chilly and not many homes. What a view!

oh this is wonderful, I can feel the battering!

That's why they call Newfoundland "The Rock".

A very dramatic coastline which reminded me of North Devon and Wales too. I know that on that far shore there are puffins - so sad it was too steep for me to climb to see them! Fav!

@elkereturns Oh my goodness, don't I get THAT now! Have you been here, Elke? Doing it again, I'd spend only a couple days in St. John's and more in the tiny outlying areas...though there are no coffee houses or grocery stores for miles around!

@Weezilou I have not been there, but as a military wife, I've met many people from Newfoundland, and they affectionately refer to it as The Rock. Those of us not from there are from "Away". They also have a custom of welcoming those from away with a ceremony where you kiss a cod and drink some Screech, a VERY powerful rum. Have you been welcomed this way?

Wonderful rocks. How do you like your camera?
June 14th, 2017
@danette I absolutely love this camera, Danette! I'd bought one only a few months ago, and Ken started using it all the time! I then bought the newest and sprung for the lenses a well (with settlement $ from my hospital accident 2 years ago). I tried using an adapter, but it wasn't what I wanted for my needs. I am running into a lot of people who have made a switch to this camera and all rave about it. Ken and I are both happy Sony users now, but because the lenses are big, I still use a smaller camera when going to a restaurant...little events sorts of things.

@danette PS, since I'm using Ken's computer, I made an HDR in PS and no additional toys that I like so much ; ) I'm pretty happy with all I'm currently posting just using that.

It`s amaze me that we are the only living species that know this. And we are only a few millions years on this planet. Great shot of this beautiful part of the world.

@Weezilou I use a Sony mirrorless camera as well, but a much lower end. I bought the additional lenses but find the basic lens works for all but the outlier images. The quality of my pictures even in low light conditions or with a moving grandbaby is always exceptional.
