Shooting street people is without a doubt THE hardest thing for me to do--way, waaaay out of my comfort zone. I can usually talk with relative ease to most folks, but to stick a camera in their face is something else altogether. Kudos to the photojournalists and 365ers who do this on a regular basis, I bow to you!
Anyway, this is a happy guy on the Venice, CA walkways whose name I cannot for the life of me remember. Note to self: Make notes to self.
he does not seem to mind you taking his photo
i am worried about taking strangers photos and then using them, but sometimes when they see my camera they ask if I will take their picture... ( ok, I am thinking of one time right now) but it taught me that it does happen and it is ok with some people.
good good photo
Very good shot… may this encourage you to do more. I try to show strangers the camera and silently ask is it OK to take their photo… unless I want a spontaneous face. People on the street are legally OK to shoot.
@annamaker@glendq I, too, try to ask whenever possible (except for those candid shots, of course) but that part is hard as well. Legal or not, I hate feeling like I'm invading someone's privacy. Slowly, but surely, I hope to have a better comfort level with this type of photography!
Great portrait and I love your little reminder! I actually keep forgetting to remember to put a small notebook in my bag for just such things. I got the pen...just need the paper. Haha
I agree on all counts. Not even very happy photographing houses, etc in case someone runs oout and shouts at me; which they have done on occasion. Great shot by the way Jenn.
good for you, for stepping outside your comfort zone......i've been trying to do that too - - - and it IS difficult - - but great shot - and great title too!
