Weekly Theme - Sound

by Ross Scrivener on Jan 23rd 2012

Congratulations go to Ariel, for winning the Yellow (2) theme, he's been in the top 5 and not won more than anyone else I think, so well done for persisting and consistently taking theme worthy photos.

At first when Ariel told me this weeks theme would be "Sound" I was a little confused, sound!?? how do you picture that? But I gave it some thought and ideas soon started coming in.

How to enter

If you wish to enter the theme this week, please tag your photo (on the edit/organise screen) with the tag theme-sound.

Entry Guidelines

Entry to this theme starts on Monday 23rd January and will accept entries until Sunday night (23:59 GMT 29th January). 5 finalists will be chosen next week and we'll start voting on Wednesday. Entries must have been taken and uploaded this week only! Entries outside of the date range will not be accepted in to the final 5.

Well done Ariel, and thanks for the theme ! going to be great seeing the entries as I had recently had the debate about whether one could capture sound in photographs :-)

Thanks Nicole, Gly, Jaydee! At last after a year, I won on a theme challenge!
Also, thanks to all who voted for my photo!

I chose something different for this week. As I was riding a vehicle yesterday, I randomly thought how can I picture sound... I can't think of any way how to do it so I decided to ask for some help through this weekly theme challenge.

Theme-sound is open for all your creative ideas. We always see emotive photos that pinch our hearts, or colorful ones that put smile on our face... for this theme, isn't it awesome (but difficult) to see something that makes us 'hear' something... I can't exactly put it into words... I know it's kinda weird to hear using our eyes...

Apologies, for a weird theme, people...
Let's give this a try! :)

I won't win this, and I don't care. Sound. It means something different to me than it does to you, even though I can hear a flea fart in the next room. When my daughter was in 4th grade, her teacher brought it to our attention that she wasn't hearing right, so we had her hearing evaluated and she has partial deafness in her left ear. We thought she might need a hearing aid, but her ear doctor said to leave it be, a hearing aid would screw with how she hears things in her good ear. He would check her every 6 months and now she is in 12th grade and her right ear makes up for what her let ear misses, and we are conscientious of where we are when we talk to her.
My fiancee was born deaf. He has worn hearing aids all his life, but his deafness has closed him off from a lot of the world. If captions aren't on TV, forget it. If he can't see your face when you talk to him, forget it. (on that I am lucky because we have excellent communication) He plays bass in a metal band, and he builds and repairs amps for his friends and other guys in bands.
Last summer he received a new pair of hearing aids from Starkey Hearing Aids.. and he hears so much more now. His batteries do die faster, but he can hear sounds that he couldn't hear before. Like the washing machine in the basement, or the hum of the fridge. Without hearing aids at all, he can't hear anything, not even my laughter...So this is my favorite picture for sound.. my fiancee drawing out a tube amp he has since built...

The inter workings of my clock as it strikes the sound of it's chimes and keeps time with it's ticking.

Tick Tock, Tick Tock - these are the time wheels of my antique clock which are responsible for it's beautiful ticking.

@hgme Heather, you need to copy and past the "copy and paste code" into the "post a comment" box at the bottom of this string. This is found on your page for your photo under "share". Hope this makes sense.

Unfortunately this beautiful old piano is silent today after being played through our family's generations. Hopefully one day it will come to life again.

To hear sound, you first need to become silent.
