I knew I had one more chance at a good butterfly pic. A couple of weeks ago, I found a monarch caterpillar. I brought it in and put it in my butterfly habitat. I gave it fresh milkweed everyday, until it made its chrysalis. I've been keeping an eye on it. Last night the chrysalis started turning black. Sometime early this morning, this wonderful butterfly emerged.
I still didn't know if I would be able to get a pic. If you try soon after their wings dry, you have a better chance. Jeff got it out of the habitat and I got some pics of it on his hand. Then I crossed my fingers and we put it on a bush. It stayed put for lots of pics! I was dancing the happy dance! :0)
We put it on a milkweed plant for its final release. It needs to get ready for its migration journey.
Everytime I get to look at a butterfly really close, it's just fantastic. They are rsuch beautiful insects!
Thank you for your lovely comments and faves for my scary wasp and speedy snail yesterday!!! :0)
I was at the aqarium the other day and they have this tropical jungle area thingy inside with sloths, parrots, etc. And they had a little butterfly area with hanging chrysalis, so you could watch them right when they emerged. It was so gorgeous, I hadn't seen that before and of course I thought of you!! This is gorgeous - one last butterfly hurrah before Autumn!
We've been getting quite a few of them around here too--it's the first time I've noticed so many (and I keep dodging them too!) Beautiful photo, he's so vibrant
I cannot see you in the leaf! Darn. I know what you mean about raising butterflies...even my ugly pest hawkmoths, that I raised from eggs 1mm across were amazing and I loved them!
I see the reflection in the leaf...I'm assuming that's where you are. You have every right to do the happy dance with this one! Not only did you get one fantastic butterfly capture, but you were singlehandedly responsible for ensuring the safety and care of this caterpillar/crysalis/butterfly! Props to you! And Happy Migration to the butterfly. Awesome!
