I was quite active when I was in college. I ran and played tennis, and after graduation I also decided to get involved in full contact Karate, Rhukyu Kempo style. I was fascinated in the art, and I was also fascinated in the study of the body's pressure points, which was very effective in rendering an attacker totally helpless in the event your life was in danger. Well after about a year, I unfortunately sustained three knee injuries, and a partially herniated disc which when it became aggravated, was very painful. I finally had to give up both tennis and Karate. The body ages, and you need to listen to what it is telling you. So now during my more "mature" years of life, I simply enjoy life, and I enjoy watching life continue around me, and don't forget, I use my camera too. This is my first entry for this weeks theme. Now everyone who has been following me for awhile, knows that I can be a bit sentimental at times, so for me, this theme will be fun, because it will bring back some fond memories. I must see what I can dig up from the past. This one I will call Capturing a Memory.
Wow! full contact Karate?! That is hard to connect with the person you are on 365... hehe Let me wrap my brain around this. This is a great shot - my dad used to play tennis in college, too. He very patiently taught me how to play when I was in high school. Those are fun memories for me. Nice job, Rick.
Your racket and tennis ball are a perfect subject for the linen look and the sepia tone. I used to play tennis in Jr. High (now called Middle School). I wasn't very good, but I enjoyed it. I never was all that athletic and when I was younger it didn't matter much. I guess I'm paying for it now, but I'm not so worried about as I used to be. I have so many other things to enjoy I don't have time to worry! Enjoyed your sentiments and love the picture.
Wonderful shot, and I love the processing. It's frustrating to have to give up an activity you love... I had to quit ice hockey because of an ankle injury, and I still miss playing.
What a good shot Rick!
I love the way you have processed this.
Isn't it great to look back on our achievements & know that we actually did "that" whatever it was, years ago.
Nice words :)
love the composition and processing of this shot, Rick! I just ordered a necklace with a camera and the words "capture life." I like your title for this, as well!
This is quite poignant for me (plus, it's a wonderful photo). I danced for 20+ years and sustained injury after injury and never dealt with them. Until the last two sprains--now I can't go en pointe in my ballet shoes and it crushes me. My physical therapist tells me it will take time but I see that "look" in his eye which tells me otherwise. So, that said, I feel your pain. Looking forward to your photos coming up.
Yes 365 brings often back some memories and I enjoy that. just like yours here although I never got good at playing the game. at my age I now like carpet bowling and even that with all the bending isn't as easy anymore as when I was younger.. So I'm joining the crowd.
Pressure points...that's an amazing skill. I definitely know about a herniated disc, I was a runner. Well, your picture is amazing along with your words...outstanding!
@weekendhacker Hey Arnold, in reference to pressure points, here is an interesting clip to look at. George Dillman Institute is where I studied. Obviously I was not able to remain active in the school long enough to advance to these levels, but it is quite fascinating. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJpnkp6-9aQ
I don't know whether you saw any coverage of Wimbledon this year, Rick. I recorded every day's play, as I just love it and look forward to it coming around each year. Neat shot.
Perfect subject for the theme... and a neat shot
I love the way you have processed this.
