I always liked how the early evening sun lights up our front room. I remember visiting my Grandparents when I was young, and as we would visit with them in their sitting room, this view is similar to what I remember seeing as a child. I think the B/W tones make it a bit more vintage. Memories are so valuable, and it's those precious memories that keep our loved ones alive in our hearts. I acquired several of my Grandparent's belongings, and several of the pieces are still displayed in our home, as they were when they were still alive. The library table pictured here was actually made by my Uncle when he was in high school. The water pitcher and basin sitting on the table belonged to my Grandparents. As my Wife and I get closer to retirement age, we talk about the possibility of selling our home so we can move into something more suitable, something all on one floor, but the thought of moving out of this home is a bit unsettling. Moving out would mean losing a big part of my life, and leaving behind so many fond memories. We have a few years yet, but until then I will continue to enjoy my memories here.
Great photo and beautiful sentiments to go with it (as always, Rick). It's funny how we all have so much "stuff" even though we know we can't take it with us. Nonetheless, we keep accumulating more and more stuff. I'm in my early 40s and hope we never have to move, just because I wouldn't want to deal with all our possessions (some sentimental, but most not).
So pretty! Lovely keepsakes and lovely lighting here! Sometimes it's so hard letting go of things that can mean so much to us! Enjoy your home and memories :)
Oh I love this shot. Love the black and white composition, this just tells me I feel right at home in this photo. And such a wonderful story to go along with it.
The clock is what caught my eye! It takes me back to visiting a great-aunt and uncle, who had so many wonderful clocks! Yes, these things that connect us to our relatives are important. The B/W created a nice effect! Not time to move, methinks!
Memories...in the corners of my mind, misty water colored memories, of the way we were...This is beautiful, Rick and I am a person who gets lost in memories too.
Beautiful story and a emotive shot... it so reminded me of my childhood and gave me goosebumps..... Its not time for you to move yet, enjoy your happy home for a few more years and you will know when the time is right to move.... until then home is where the heart is!
A fav for me :))
Good Picture for the theme and you are so right about the losing things or some treasured mementos, when it's time to down size. Take it from begin now to decision time of what you will keep and what you can't. Can be a devistating time
Gorgeous photo! I cannot imagine living in the house with so much history. Deciding to move cannot be even close to an easy decision. I really like your composition
Rick this is such beautiful picture. to some its just a house to us its a home and I wouldn't want to part with ours. but when the times comes that one can't get around in a 2 1/2 storey home its best to know beforehand what will have leave behind and what items you will be able to take with you..not an easy decision.
Love the regulator clock and the butterfly on the wall. Both add to the personality of this shot. It is hard to think about giving up on family heirlooms especially if you don't think anyone else would appreciate them.I look at the original art we have collected on our travels. Nothing too costly -- watercolors of places we visited -- and realize no one will care about them after we are gone. For us, just looking at the painting of a street in Salzburg evokes the wonderful day we had wandering those narrow streets. It is really sad, isn't it?
@allie912 Yes it is. I know our kids will appreciate some of the heirlooms, but others, if they want something it will be only for what they may be worth. Thank goodness we have nothing of any real monetary value, all mostly sentimental, so at least we can allow the kids the pleasure of keeping them for as long as they want. .
What a lovely setting. Nice capture Rick.
We have a water pitcher & basin that belonged to our grandparents too. I know what you mean about our kids not wanting some things that we value now. But I guess that will be part of their chain of passing stuff own to their kids. It's the sentiment of the things that count & the memories they invoke :)
Now *that's* a thoughtfully-photographed window setting! While it's beautifully composed, it's about what's meaningful to you, and through that, we learn so much about you... I had to drop back by to say how very nice your note was...I can end the day with a smile, too! Thanks for that, and the feeling's mutual!
