I have driven by this old cemetery many times over the years, but because it sits alone on top of this country hillside, when the corn and grain grows tall, it can easily be overlooked, and foregotten. It sits in the midst of farmland so it is not easily accessed however, its appearance tells me that someone makes it a point to get there. For some reason it caught my eye, so I pulled over and used my telephoto lens to grab a photo. The tree seems to stand proud next to the stone wall surrounding the graveyard, and it gives it a kind of protected and peaceful appearance. I'm glad that someone takes the time to provide some care to this place.
I love this. Great processing and so nice you took time to stop and photograph a beautiful place. So nice to see it taken care of. I am sure for those who are there know there is kindness and peace.
Beautiful photo and black and white seems so appropriate, and also really enhances the photo. Your composition is perfect, with that huge tree protecting the graveyard. I love it when graves are well taken care of. My grandparents were passionate about that, and taught me it is important to remember and respect those who have passed on.
Lovely picture, when I was still in school I used to go riding on my bike and I would end up in our Town's cemetery now there areThree in that same Town/city. Besides them also a Crematorium, etc etc I would be drawn to the headstones on the graves of the people whose family could afford them, and would spend a long time there reading them. Over the years we have visited some other towns that have become connected through the Family Tree I have been working on.
It is so sad to see all the neglected graves and in lots of cases damaged and vandalised headstones, though I tell myself they may have no family left to go to and tend the graves. Sad isn't it, I have said I do not want to be buried with a headstone, as I am not there. The body will be breaking down but the Soul has gone to its Maker, so do not visit and mourn by a grave. I'm surprised that each Cemetery does not employ caretakers , guess it's got to do with money and costs.
Yes, it's wonderful that someone takes care of it. That's the type of thing that you have to wonder about in the future. Our priorities are so different now. Interesting photo!
Very nice :-) It's great you noticed it and stop to take a photo. Even a stanger can remember them, even if they didn't know them. Very special of you Rick :-)
