This one is for Marybeth @espyetta. She loves spiders, at least she loves taking photos of them. I figured if anyone could identify this one she could. this one was spotted in a crevice along some rocks during our hike yesterday. Josie did not like this one at all. So have at it Marybeth.
A blot on the landscape !!--love the colour & texture of the rocks --but spiders I can not abide -this one especially looks evil --a real Dark Vader !!
I had a good chuckle at everyone's name suggestions and comments as to what this spider should do/not do, go/not go. Haha! This is a scary spider. That is what I call these. Oddly, I never see this type! Well, I did once, on the front sidewalk , but I did not get a good pic and he ran off. My first thought was "Wolf Spider" because of the shape and the scary factor. haha Guess where I learned my spider knowledge, Rick? From a man on here named Robert Velten. @robv I just tagged him. He is an etymologist and HE will surely know what this bad boy (or girl) is. If not, I will also be googling or on Bug Guide to find him for you. Great capture! He is SCARY!
@espyetta Looks like Tigrosa aspersa from some pics online but I can't be sure from the photo. They are handsome beasts, such devoted mothers as well. Nice capture.
@robv@digitalrn It does look like the Tigrosa Aspersa pics ! I see now that she has a pattern on her abdomen that is different than the wolf spiders..wolf seems to have vertical striping, but not this one. Thanks Robert!
