I took some pictures of my daughter for the artist challenge. I'm having a very hard time figuring out which of these I like best, and I find it surprising what other's opinions are. Which do you like best and why? Is there anything you don't like about them? (Don't worry..you won't offend me. Unless you say something rude of course, like "wow, you have ugly children!" or something like that.) These were goofing around shots, and maybe I can learn something from them.
I really like all three shots.. But I really like the second one. Something very peaceful and relaxing about the picture.you have a beautiful daughter.
@grammyn And I love you for it katy! @smithak Thank you! She needs to hear that! The second one is her big sister's fav too. @byrdlip Tee hee..maybe because that's just water with a bit of red and blue food dye mixed in. I didn't feel like making tea (we only drink herbal anyway.) What I like about that one is the curvy line her hair makes against her face, echoed in the curl.
"wow, you have ugly children!" haha Now, Mary, you KNOW I am kidding with you! These are great and your kids are gorgeous. Your daughter has the most stunning eyes! But, with that said, I like the one where she is not showing them the best. I like how the second one looks the best. Her eyes are not showing, but the cat's are. Sort of makes a cool image. There is some tension in that one too...a story.... I vote #2. I never thought to ask people on a discussion about a pic to pick the one to use. You are smart!
@espyetta actually, I tagged all three!LOL And well, YOU have ugly minions! So there! :-P Seems like a lot of people like the cat one. I do like the way her lashes and eyebrows look in that one. And Tai Tai's expression. That one is HeWho's fav also, because he said it is the most Happy Elina one.
I haven't checked out the artist's work yet, so I am solely going on which one draws me in the most and that would be the third one. I love your daughter's eyes- very compelling and that shot makes me wonder what she's thinking. Could she be angry? Is she sad? And so on. I like the second shot, second best- lots of tenderness there, and the first the least, not because of the model, but she doesn't look as relaxed with the teacup as she does in the third shot without it. So there's my 2 cents worth.
I'm going with what MaryBeth said, I like the second one the best. The way her face is angled her bone structure looks amazing. Very beautiful daughter and shot, like the cat too!!
artistically I like the second one better, she shapes of therein are fabulous. As a shot of her, I prefer the first one she has a hoighty kind of look which is very interesting, I would process that one a bit different to try and enhance the shadows a bit more and therefore bring her out a bit more.
your daughter is lovely and i think all three shots are great... but for the artist challenge, i would pick number 1... Chapelle tends to go for attitude and for the surreal and there is something about how she is holding the tea cup and the side-on look in the first that i think works well...
I think @northy just gave you the best advice yet! I was not even thinking about the artist's style when I answered. And the first one is the most surreal...
@cgoose Thank you! And my cat says "thank you" too! :-) @frida Interesting. I did increase the shadows just a bit. @northy Yes, I think that one is the most like his work. I was thinking "things need to be busier! props!!"LOL I think I saw one of his with a cup, and I have a bunch of teacups. @espyetta LOL, my son who is private. His name is on a need to know basis...and you all don't need to know. LOL.. so I call him HeWho, as in "he who shall remain nameless!" @kwind Thank you so much!!
Your daughter is beautiful!
I like all the shots - prefer the first two for different reasons. I love the casual coolness of her expression in the first one. It's hard to read what emotion she is displaying and that does give her a mysterious air.
I like the second one because you see the bone structure a little clearer, and I read love between her and her cat. The cat's eyes are pretty amazing, too!
I think I would favor the top one a little more.
If the idea is to do a shot of your daughter then number 1 definitely - it shows her and the cup of tea adds focus. The second one the cat is the focus, which is great if that is your intention, but it detracts from your daughter. The third one is a good shot of your daughter but lacks anything else to make it more artistic. Therefore I would go for number 1.
Personally I prefer the second as its different to the usual type of portrait you see, and for me it actually conveys more emotion, as you can see the bond between your daughter and the cat.
Top one for me, love the composition - has much more of a dramatic feel too. For me the second one looks like the cat is the main subject. BTW your daughter is beautiful !
I like all 3, but the last one to me looks the most natural and my favourite. For the challenge the 1st may be more suitable, it looks like more thought has gone into the whole picture. The 2nd was a lovely too and I love cats but I think the cat draws you away from your daughter. Well done on all of them.
Not knowing the artists work, I like #1 for all the reasons stated already. If you reshoot this post, it seems having some shadow in the background would add to the mysterious aspect of this image.
