I've never done this before and I promise I won't do it often. I have two versions of a shot I took this morning in the fog. I meant to stick with the one that showed how it really looked, but I couldn't keep my hands off it. Does anyone have any preferences between the two? I don't know if I can put both in one comment. Here's the foggy one.
I personally prefer the top one -- the increased contrast in the lower shot has taken away from the fog, and it now looks more like it was just a very overcast day. There's also some texturing in the grey area to the right of the tree trunk which keeps grabbing my eye and distracting me.
Yup. The top one wins in my eyes. There is nothing stopping you having both shots in one album on one day but you will have to put both pictures side by side and make them into one shot to do that (e.g. use Photoshop, Picmonkey or whatever you are comfortable with)
I agree with the comments above but I also like the increased sharpness of the second photo - it has an almost abstract composition, so for different reasons I like both very much, perhaps you should just treat them as two different pictures rather than compare them.
@mariadarby Thanks! That's sort of how I feel about them. I was drawn to the reflection, so I wanted to emphasize it - but also, I'm not out in that much fog very often, so I wanted to record it. If they were in a larger group, so they weren't side by side ... food for thought!
The top one because it shows how the tree and reflection really looks. Also, the reflection in the bottom one seems more fake while as the top one looks like it would in nature.
I agree I love the top foggy picture best. The second one I'd use to play around with, ie turn it upside down and use cropping or other tools to create something visually interesting.
Here's the more colorful one.
