Hi all,
I´ve been enjoying an evening of playing around with my new flash. This resulted in two photos I really like how they turned out, but I find it very hard to determine which would work best. So, I would really appreciate it if you would share your opinion on which you think works best, and possibly, why. It´s feedback like this that helps me grow as a photographer, so it is really appreciated and I value the opinions of this community highly.
Both images are based on the same photo. The first however is almost SOOC, and the second is obviously edited, but in a style I really like. I was aiming for a productshot kind of photo.
I normal would opt for the SOOC shot... and when I first looked at both quickly, that is what I thought. But as I studied them more, I really like the vintage, warmer feel of #2. Nice job!
As a fan of the whiskey, would you mind two comments. I think you need a less beige background to give a bit more depth to either picture. Also if you have the label more centered instead of showing the larger side of the blank bottle.
I would have to say the second one has warmer tones, and whiskey should always be given a warm feeling. But the first one does have a more natural shade in the glass.
I like the gold of the whisky in the first one but I like the background of the second, if it had been me I would have overlayed and masked the whisky bottle and glass of the first one onto the background of the second, but I never do things easy. If I was to make a choice though it would have to be number 2 purely because of the interest
2 because of the shadow from the flash...In photo 1 it is distracting because of the simpleness of the back ground and the flash position, also the arrows don't seem to fit. In photo 2 the shadow becomes a part of the processing and is secondary, almost dis-appearing. I have had luck bouncing the flash off of something (usually white) to help eliminate the shadows, also with a whitish reflective background.
Not sure, but one is def sooc. I think you can do it better still! Not sure what those pieces of wood are, they clutter the image, are they meant to be there? Good luck. Yum whiskey!
I agree with chantal about the pieces of wood. And I love the colour and the warm feeling of the first one better. Edit is fun, but the colour in the second one has become to dark to my taste. I love what you're trying!
@kimfaria@brumbe@asrai@shadesofgrey@chantal@geertje Thank you for the creative comments as well, I will definitely take these to heart! This was my first practice run using a proper flash, so any creative comments or critique only helps me develop.
Geertje, Chantal, the pieces of wood are two arrows lying next to the bottle. I tried introducing these as props, but they may not be clear enough and therefor distracting to the photo, I will keep that in mind as well next time.
I'd also like a glass of that whisky, as that is a very nice malt indeed...
