I've just purchased a zoom lense off the Amazon site. If you're looking to get one in the near future it might be worth investing now as it's reduced in price from £299 down to £106. Only possible downside is that it doesn't have any image stabilisation. I haven't used mine fully yet but from what I've seen already... I'm impressed.
I purchased that lens more than two years ago. I'm not too happy with it but that could be just me. And I guess for that price, it's okay. I call it my "summer time lens" 'cause it's taking better pictures when the weather is fine. :-)
Here are some of my pics I took with that lens; it's great for zoo photography :
I also used it for this one: (the moon part of the picture)
I bought this lense a few years ago and it cost me $150. Its a great lense for landscapes and getting closer to things like animals etc. Ecsp for use at zoos, wildlife safaris etc. Does much better outside in natural light or its slow.
@kareen Hey...i also have the same lens but of NIKON.and it also dont have stabilisation..But work pretty good in day time or if i use tripod.Took this
@socalgal That's is a crazy good shot of the moon, I love the bottom. You can almost touch it! @shadowdancer You may not be too happy with it but the photos you've taken with it are outstanding!
@cjwhite@socalgal Looks like I have a lot to look forward to. @shadowdancer Love that eagle shot. @kmaya Tbh Maya, I'm not exactly sure what major difference the IS would make to picture taking. Does it stop picture shake or something like that. I can imagine that the camera will be quite heavy - especially if a flash gun is used. @2sweetladybugs Sounds like you live in a beautiful place.
Wow, that's some reduction, I love these threads the most out of all the discussions when we all help each other get a good deal. If I wasn't saving up for the 550 body rather than my 400 I'd buy! THANKS
@chewyteeth I use the 400 body as well. I.know I should be upgrading soon but what's the big difference with the 550? Why have you chosen this over the other bodies?
Bit smaller, the stats are as good as any Canon camera for what I will use it for, 18.7mp instead of 10, photographers tell me its great and the pics on here look great. Plus my 400 has a fault which isn't a big problem, but still, I'm saving up. I'll buy the body and use the 10 or so lenses I already have for my 400.
@chewyteeth 10 lenses? Flipping heck. That's a nice collection you have there. If you had to choose two lenses - which are the two that you couldn't do without?
@kareen
The 50mm f1.1.8
and....
Maybe the 35-100 f3.5
They're both German lenses made for SLRs which I adapt for my DSLR but also use with my Praktica and Pentax cameras. I also use the Canon 18-55 quite a lot.
@chewyteeth Thanks for that Dave. I've read about the nifty fifty on this website. I think that will be next on my list. The new camera body will have to wait.
Get an adaptor ring on eBay, £9 for the PB lense system (Praktica) or £12 for the PK (Pentax) lens system, then you can fit them to your Canon, the adaptors are ace, and eBay Praktica B lenses and Pentax bayonet lenses, average price is £10 for some super stuff.
I primarily use mine for squirrels and moon shots(though I haven't taken a picture of the moon in a while) Here's another squirrel shot with the lens:
They like to taunt my doggies so they'll stand still and chirp at them.
