After giving it a considerable amount of thought, I have just allowed my son Sam, who is almost 12 to join 365. At the moment he is talking about ideas for photographs non-stop which is really exciting. I am helping him with a little bit of editing (cropping and lighting mainly, but he has had a little go with the clone stamp tool too, which he loved.) Unfortunately he is unsatisfied with my old compact camera which means he has to borrow mine which is a little bit frustrating when I want to use it!
Below is his first picture.
I was wondering whether anybody knows of any other young people who do the project so he can follow them and they can hopefully follow him. I think it would be interesting for him to see the world through other youngsters' eyes.
I love Sarah @tigervolleyball and Rebecca @honeybees. They are both very talented. Looks like a new camera might be in your future!! Good luck to your son!
On another note, don't let him be unsatisfied with the compact, tell him using a compact to start his project lets him study composition, light and other formal things, without worrying about settings on the camera. You can learn a lot on the simple cameras and then when you progress to an SLR things make more sense. Also consider getting him a super cheap film camera off ebay as that is cool and interesting for kids!
;)
@chewyteeth Cool and interesting for kids? I got me one last night for 7 quid and literally jumped with joy. Its a 35 mm and apparently they are really hard to get good pictures out of. Can not wait for the challenge!
Thank you all so much for your suggestions - I had no idea there were so many young people on here. My son has had a look at some of them and I am sure he will follow lots of them when he has chance to catch up with this thread.
I must say tho, I am starting to regret my decision to let him join. We found 3 grass snakes in our garden today and the photo he took of them was better than mine........
@dishaparekh176
a 35mm compact camera is simple enough that a monkey in a coma can use one, my 10 year old nephew often takes great photos with one. What did you get for £7?
Working in a school I have a particular empathy with children joining in - I follow two young ladies who are 14 and Sam who is 'going to be a junior' - all their stuff is worth a look and encouraging. Good luck to your Sam - looks like he is off to a flying start!

sorry I only just made the effort to look at your project, and you're in my city!!
if you live near an asda maybe they have a photo developing lab, as asda are the cheapest £2.86 for developing and scanning to disc. You'll have great fun, its like the only film camera I don't have/have had. will you post your pics here? Did you see i have a lot of film pics, and also a gang of people on here use film almost permanently now, search film-lives in the box above if you don't already know. ;)
@chewyteeth Haha yeah I went through yours and the magazine looks interesting. I might save up and get myself a copy soon! And yes, I have heard a lot about the 365 film club. I hope I get interesting enough photos out of this to post on here. I'm getting increasingly bored of what I'm doing now so maybe film will make me diversify my subjects. I can see myself becoming a film junkie soon. Thanks for the ASDA tip, I'll let you know how the shooting/developing is going :)
@dishaparekh176
you should, I'll check back too. The film kids are reducing at the moment, I think maybe the site doesn't satisfy them. On 365 you're either shooting with the latest camera and wowing everyone with the super-pixels and shooting outragously clear pictures of a drip of water hitting a glass of milk at super quality, or you're posting for your own satisfaction and catching up with a few friends. Film will make you happy but it won't get you on the popular page. I'm sure your results will be great, I look forward to seeing them.
@chewyteeth Being popular is over rated. I'm sure the flowers/ insect macros/ and sunsets disagree. I just don't want to settle into that kind of photography. Maybe pursue a few photojournalistic skills, which I think film will bring out more than my DSLR does. In a month, when I'm done with exams, I'm bringing some film mojo to the PP. That is just how I 'roll'. See what I did there? Haha. Look forward to your work. x
I follow Karuna who is 14 - has some lovely pictures so far! @agavegirl13 I also follow a few more younsters - but I don't always think of them as young so I will have to go back and look at their profiles!
I don't see that anyone has mentioned @greekdaniel yet. I'm not sure of his exact age, but he's got some great natural talent and has been on the PP several times.
She took this shot in february and I included it in my project!

Rachel is a student of mine (headed to 5th grade) who does the project. He may want to check out her pics.
