My niece's wedding last November. I was just a guest and had to mindfully stay out of the way of the hired photographer. Because of that, I got this rather unique perspective of the bride, moments after saying "I do."
Great thread Brendan! I'm shooting my first one this coming Sunday. It will be a very small, intimate affair and I am quite nervous! Can you give any tips?
I did the photos for my nieces wedding a couple of years ago.She has a nice album, and is very happy with her photos, but boy would I have done it differently after 9 months on 365!!!
This is her with her Dad.(My brother)
I was a guest at this wedding so my photos were mostly candids and this one was shot at a distance as I stayed out of the way of their paid photographer. This was shot as they were setting up for photos on the dock after the service. I love this candid tender moment.
@agima
I photographed my sisters wedding but did not enjoy it as I was also a guest, so felt I was missing out, but I like to try to get those different shots, but never works out, below are from 3 different weddings.
@michellegaynor Thanks a bummer that it spoiled your day. While it is work, I find it exciting as you get a back stage pass and get to feel the real emotions of the day.
I guess the best one is to take as many photos as you can... Take them low, take them high, just take lots and play around with composition, focus and lighting.
The more photos you have the better the chance you will have a great collection of photos at the end.
Oh another tip is to change cards regularly. as your card will fill up just at the wrong time and it also ensures that if something goes wrong with a card that you have at least some photos..
@onie I think 365 has helped a lot of people and that has to be a good thing. :)
@jsilver Nice set of shots and I love the second one.
@andycoleborn I would love to take one of these style of weddings... I saw one while I was in Perth the other week and I had the urge to start snapping away....
@johnnyfrs I like the - not so normal shots and this one is great.
@ltodd Great timing. I was taking photos last week in a botanical garden and I stumbled across a wedding.... I almost drove back to the place I was staying to get my other lens....
@aleksandra@magentarose yes plan plan plan and when you think you have planned enough plan some more ,make sure you check all your equipment is working charge all your batteries carry spares just in case a second camera is a good idea too, go to all the locations way ahead of time and find the best spots to take photos check the lighting conditions and plan for the worst lighting you could get, make check lists of all the shots you want to take, if in doubt google wedding photo checklist even look at how others have done their wedding photos, dont forget details lots of pics of the wedding party are great but dont forget stuff like bouquets and location dressing, details of the dress, rings e.t.c. then before you go to do your thing make sure you have absolutely everything you need (nothing worse than getting to the wedding to find you have no memory card / film in your camera.) other than all that relax and have fun
Here's my wedding shot....This was my sister's wedding in June 2012. She had asked me and another friend to take photos. The other photographer would take photos when I needed to be in the photos with family. On the big day, the other photographer did NOT show up. I was nervous at that point. I did take photos of the cake and the reception room prior to the wedding. Once, I started shooting, I was better. The hardest part was getting the group shots and the people to stick around. I had a member of the groom's family help get all their family for the photos. It was an experience! There are lots of things that I would do differently.
not your stereotypical wedding shot - but these two like a bit of quirkyness!!
Wedding photography, I did as a one off under extreme duress for a friend and frankly it spoiled a really nice day for me! LOL.
I couldn't resist a shot of my own. Look carefully you'll find a bride and groom.

This one took 2nd place in a local fair.
