Making a book of 365

January 5th, 2013
I used Blurb to make a one volume book of my 365 project with one photo per page. I would highly recommend it to anyone. If a book is over 270 pages long you can only have the lowest quality of paper so I was concerned it would be poor quality, however I needn't have been concerned, the paper quality is great! The reproduction of the colours was superb. A few pictures that I took in low light without a flash were slightly darker than they appeared on the computer screen, that is all, and to be expected I suppose. Blurb is very flexible in allowing a variety of page layouts and you can save new page layouts. I also included text from what I'd written each day so it is a great journal of a year in my life. All of you who have just finished, get cracking on that book you promised yourself! Maybe other people could comment on other ways of making books.

I made a blurb book too for the first year, didn't do a photo per page though, about to put together my second year but that won't be a photo a page either due to wanting to include my time as part of @theseven :)

I've used Blurb for other purposes and they did a good job. I've also used My Publisher, but they are more expensive. I'd thought about breaking it up into four volumes, one per season but it sounds like with Blurb I wouldn't need to. Thanks for the ideas -- although at this point I'm a long way from being done!

Let me get this straight - I guess you have to go through the shots , take them from your library and organize them ? No sending them a link to the project and asking them to print :-) Kind of wishing I could send the cash in return for a book! Seriously technically challenged this side !

@glyn it's a good idea to keep an album of your project as you go on so you don't have to go through your whole photo library looking for your 365 photos when you start to make your book.
No Blurb doesn't do it for you unfortunately. I think some other software will upload your photos from an album and slot them into their page format. However they will inevitably crop them to fit and not necessarily to your liking but it would still evoke the special memories of your project.

I created a Blurb book of my 2011 project and I was extremely happy with the quality. The link to my book is on my profile, if you are interested to see ideas.

@doyouseewhatisee I really like the black background, it sets your photos off beautifully, what a great book!

@louisefrance I've just started mine - on Jan 10th so far- what font size did you used because I've written too much nonsense with som photos so I want to go as small as poss!

I used Blurb for my first year and am a little way through my second year - going to use them again - in fact I've made 4 massive travel photography books with them, never been disappointed!
@judithg I used Teen Lite font - 14 for titles and 11 for text. My last book I used Tempus Sans with the same format. For one of the travel books I did I seemed to remember using 12 and 14 fonts for the normal text and it was too big.

@judithg I used font size 12 for everything. My daughter thinks it lloks too big but as I'm a teacher of the visually imapired I always veer towards larger font sizes! I used the headers, and sometimes the footers, for the dates and photo titles but it was a pain having to delete the book title and page numbers that Blurb put in automatically.

Hi Louise
I only started my 365 project on 1 January but I have decided to make a Blurb book of my images at the end of this year. I have used Blurb on 3 occasions and have found them to be of excellent quality both in print reproduction and paper quality.

I'm just starting to put together a Blurb book for this last year. Right now I'm trying to figure out some basic layouts to use for horizontal and vertical pics. I think I want to do one page per day. @sparkle @louisefrance thanks for the font ideas! I was originally thinking of using 14pt for titles but it seems that may be too big.

@staffsknott my advice would be try and compile it as you go - it's a nightmare when you have to put it together at the end of the year!!

I've used Photobook Canada for a few books. They have turned out great and I highly recommend them!

I’ve been working on my book for my first year in blurb. I keep getting sidetracked! It’s nice to hear the quality is good.
January 5th, 2013
@sparkle Yeah thanks for that advice Juliette - bit late now!! @louisefrance I've definitely written too much for point 12!
January 5th, 2013
@sparkle Oh sorry - just realised you've given me font size as well - I was abusing you for the 'do it as you go along advice'! Which is quite right and it's going to take me so long to do 2012 that I won't do 2013 as I go along either...

Had anyone made a blurbblurb book through Lightroom? I've been trying to do it that way for my wedding photos, but it insists on using the USA store when I try to pay.
January 5th, 2013
@doyouseewhatisee I tried to check out your book but its not working unfortunately.

Wow, I'm not even halfway through my project yet but I've been thinking I'd like to do this when I reach the one year mark! Great to know of a good company to use :)

I do my books through Apeture, which us an apple program. They are excellent quality and it is much better to have them out for enjoyment rather than stuck on a computer!

@kjarn Kathy, there seemed to be a weird glitch with the site - I was getting errors, too! Try this link: http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/3361134. Thanks for letting me know! Blurb was recommended to me by folks on this site back when I put this together. I know there are lots of options, and I'd be curious to see what you all end up doing. I will, most likely, do another book at the end of 2013. I think it is a fantastic keepsake. If they've got family pics in them, and such, they could be great gifts for loved ones as well!

@doyouseewhatisee that link worked and what a lovely book, some amazing photos and they look great on black pages. I really must get stuck into mine.

@judithg Great to see this and all the other Braille pictures posted that day for World Braille Day!

This is a good idea. I'll have to remember it when I finish my project next December.
