Professional Looking Portraits - technique challenge host

June 3rd, 2013
I am looking to find a host for the next technique challenge.
I would LOVE it if I could find someone to give tips and advice on professional looking portraits. It could be on taking the shot, editing or both

***Who comes to mind (on this site) when you think of awesome professional portraits? *** Recommendations and shout-outs please!

Do you think that would be a good topic for the next technique challenge?

you should ask damon @netconnexion he takes excellent portraits.

@summerfield The link to his profile doesn't work! :( I think I know who you're talking about though!

@amiga, @soia, @jocelynphotography, @netkonnexion @tracywilliams @lorrainerb

Your skills in Professional Portraits have been admired by fellow 365 community - So who is willing and able to take on Professional Photography for the next Technique Challenge??????

@lorrainerb Lorraine does some awesome portraits...everything she posts is awesome. The other one that comes to mind is Tracy @tracywilliams I'm excited about this challenge. Portraits are something I avoid cause I suck at them!!

I vote for :
@agima
@chewyteeth

and also think Teresa ( @pocketmouse ) could push out some as well
June 3rd, 2013
ops, I left out @tracywilliams

Hi Kathy - I would LOVE tips on this - especially non-studio shots - I've been asked to take two people recently for professional use and I intend taking them outdoors so I would be very grateful for any help with that.

@k1w1 Christine, @myhrhelper
Kathy Burzynskiwow thank you for such a great compliment, but I would definitely ask Tracy @tracywilliams as she has such a wide (and fabulous) variety of portraiture in her collection. : )
June 3rd, 2013
I would say Tracy @tracywilliams
June 3rd, 2013
@netconnexion always gives down to earth advice and suggests low-tech low cost props/ equipment
June 3rd, 2013
@pocketmouse Teresa is known to do nice ones too... *ahem* lol.
June 3rd, 2013
@myhrhelper i would love to help!
June 3rd, 2013
@jocelynphotography @ozziehoffy @june @tracywilliams @netconnexion @lorrainerb @judithg @soia @k1w1 @toast @agima
@chewyteeth @bobfoto
@wenbow @tigerdreamer @m9f9l @tigerdreamer @summerfield @jannkc @jannkc @pocketmouse

Ok here is a thought - one idea is to have a 2 person team since there is the shooting the photo and the post processing when taking professional portraits. DOES it make sense to have a 2 person team to host?? Is covering both too much or can one person do both?

Also - Jocelyn has agreed to host the challenge - what is your thoughts on this Jocelyn? - I saw the link to her portraits very impressive.

Thanks All

@myhrhelper

I'm not in the running, I hate seeing non-regular posters doing posts like they know it all, and I stopped posting pictures in February (after 2 years) so count me out, even though I loves me some portraits. I could do tutorials on using film, film SLRs to buy and Model Mayhem and working with models, but there's much better portrait peeps.
June 3rd, 2013
@jocelynphotography Looks like an excellent host so long as she can post some advice for those of us who don't have her natural assets!
June 3rd, 2013
@jocelynphotography Yes I would love to have you host the next technique challenge featuring Professional Portraits.
Some have studio's most of us do not.
Thank you so much!

1st challenge to help you with how to structure the post.

@myhrhelper tough one on a 2 person challenge... i think for the purpose of a general "here's a challenge" type situation its fine. For me, I work on coming up with the idea of the image - sometimes this involves the model.

Post processing is done by me because I know the feel that I want to achieve - if I were to use a retoucher, I'd want to give them a brief about the point of the image and what i'm trying to portray.
June 3rd, 2013
@toast thank you but that's not what I'm looking for in this challenge
June 3rd, 2013
Well both Tracy Williams and Jocelyn Jones agreed to host the challange!!!
Tracy is willing to co-host with Jocelyn so hopefully we can get the two of them. Both of them are amazing photographers and it would be so nice.
June 3rd, 2013
I dont think I got my point across there.. what i mean is that if you're going to have a challenge where the retoucher is different to the photographer, you may want to make it part of the challenge for the two to talk to each to convey the idea of the image

Ok I read your comment before I had my 2nd coffee - that makes sense Weng!
