I'm curious to see what everyone thinks that their personal favorite photo for the month of October is, and why.
It was hard for me to choose one, but I finally decided on my last shot of the month because I love silhouettes and rainbow colored anything, plus, it was my first time ever using a texture overlay in Photoshop and I like how it turned out. I'm excited to see what everyone chooses for their own.
Tough choice between 3 photos I really liked this month - but I've settled on this one. I didn't like it at first, but it's grown on me. I'd love to try this again, but it's quite hard to stay focused on the bird as it flies. A lot of the shots looked great on the camera, but not so good on the computer later. Anyhow!
Wow, looks like October was a good month for all of us, many amazing photos already in this thread.
I had a tough choice as well, but I went with this one because I got to use new techniques for this photo I learned from fellow 365 photographers on using extension tubes for even close macrophotography.
Ooh a monthly favourite photo thread... it's so difficult to choose only one! I like about six or seven, dislike about the same and the rest are so-so. My favourite photos are my night-time long exposures, and the one I did on the first day of October. I'm really happy with this one because it also made the EXPLORE page on Flickr and is by far my most viewed photo on that site:
I like this photo because I think it isn't easy to catch a dragonfly and be quick enough to focus so you get her shadow as well before this busy one takes off again.
I wanted to do this picture when she first had her son, and I had a whole different picture in mind, but while visiting her, the sun was shining through her living room window and just made my job easy :) Also I'm very happy and very jealous of her!! :-P
We were excited to take our Emma out for Halloween this year since she is 17 months and walking and ready to go...well she got a sucker at one of the first couple houses...and she didn't want anything but that! so she rode in the wagon around our friends neighborhood while her sister and other kids raked in the candy! it was a fun time:)
Hmm...
It was tough not to choose a photo of my nephew, or the one of Garrett and I but I have to go with this one. I miss living in these Woods so much, and it was a huge part of my life. Apart from all the memories described in the caption, this is also where Garrett and I met, and where we spent one of my last days before coming home. Everything just came together for the photo as well, it was just so magical.
To me it represents a sense of longing and hope at the same time.
So hard to pick! I had some really good photos this month... As if picking for the week wasn't hard enough! LOL! At any rate, I am going to say this one because I wanted to get a photo for the contest I am participating in and this came out exactly as I had in my mind:
Well i would have picked one of my chameleon that died last week but ive went for this one as this is where we went to sit to gather our thoughts after we lost him
Some great shots this month x
October was a good month for me. Maybe it's being in a new area, but I have taken more photos this month than I ever have before. I think my favorite has to be this one from Oct, 13th.
I think I have to go with this one because it was the hardest to do. Not hardest to shoot, but hardest to convince myself that it would be fine to show this. I got so many positive remarks from it, that I was incredibly happy I did it afterall!
Wow, is there ever talent on 365! I am so impressed with the pictures here and feel humbled to add mine. I love water and reflections the most of all so this has to be my favorite of the month.
hard to choose! i enjoyed October and took some fun shots...this was probably my favorite though...because i've been consumed by the twilight craze (i know, i know), because i got to play with picnik's halloween features for the first time, and because my hubby makes one sexy vampire victim :)
My favourite would be this one. It was surprisingly popular too making it to the home page! I loved it but didn't expect anyone else to lol. It's the first of a Disney series.
Well, October was an okay month for me, photo-wise. I chose this photo because it has emotional value for me personally. The day I took this photo was a very hard day. I was going through something that caused me a lot of grief and anguish. I also happened to be making jam. I like the metaphor, the process fruit goes through when it becomes jam -- hence my title.
Sometimes we need to go through extremely painful things and be -- in fact -- broken, before we can be remade into something new. It's how we learn. This photo represents that for me; the process of being broken down and made anew. Made better
October sucked the big one for me photography wise. About 27 out the 31 shots from this past month I really hate.
So I'm gonna go with this one from Halloween
because I'm jealous..lol.. I wanted to do the same shot.. love riding through the country roads and seeing this.. though I never could get the clouds and this picture is a job well done!
This one because even though our families have known each other since the two children were about 9 months old it feels as if October was all about their growing friendship.
I have very much admired the photos that have been posted of dragonflies, but was never able to find one or successsfully take one myself. But, I did on October 10th!
There are so many great photos above. I had a month when my camera finally conked out, so I am going to choose a picture I took when it was still working as I put quite a bit of effort into this. It's nothing spectacular, but I like the results.
There are a few that I really like in my October calendar but I really enjoy looking at this one. I love animals so much and I took this one at work(I work for a vet). This is what makes me love my job so it makes me happy.
This is not my favorite in terms of quality, but we had fun doing it . . . my son was scared by the haunted house at his school and kept checking under his bed . . . he loved the final product and every night now wants me to take another photo of his "dangling feet" and see what turns up under his bed when I download the photo!!!!!
I get very attached to my entries so it is hard to choose between them. Some are really pretty and others aren't as picturesque but mean a lot because they are from a special outing or event. Since I not only love photography but also writing, I chose the entry that I liked best for the combo of the picture and the written portion, which was a poem I wrote this day.
I really liked a handful of mine from last month (on top of the extra few handfuls of ones that I think aren't overly brilliant) ... but I think this one is maybe the one for me:
I chose that one because I've always wanted to photograph (wild) animals but haven't really had the equipment before. Now that I have a 70-300 mm lens, I can finally get close to at least some animals!
This was one of those "being in the right place at the right time with a camera and a fresh set of batteries" photos! I was walking down a dirt road along a Parker River in Newbury, MA, and knew there was a pond on the left but didn't expect to find a Great Egret fishing there! What a nice surprise! I love the way the late afternoon sun backlit his feathers. Definitely one of my favorite photos of all time, not just October. :-)
At first I thought the planet beneath the moon was Mars, but after checking through the scope, I saw the multicolored bands and 4 major moons, so it is Jupiter and not Mars.
Wow, I cannot wait to check out some of these photos posted above. Awesome work! For the moment, my personal fave of my October pics is this one (but ask me tomorrow and that could change!)
I had to do a double take when I first saw this web. It didn't seem any different than other spider webs I usually see on property but the colors all around it really stuck out after staring at it for some time.
Because I had one thing in mind and then the photo took charge and something totally different was my end result! I also love the abstractness of it all too! :0)
Well, this one is easy because I just started this on October 30. Actually, my favotie October photo is my favorite overall. I've been trying, but just haven't had shots I've been crazy about.
I love sunsets/sunrises.
Maybe this one. Because its different from my other photos.
cant go past a shot of my son on his first Birthday :-)
I love the explosion of leaves when kicked.
I had a tough choice as well, but I went with this one because I got to use new techniques for this photo I learned from fellow 365 photographers on using extension tubes for even close macrophotography.

I was super excited to see double rainbows

This one had the most responses and is actually my favorite.

I just love the way this one came out.
had a handful of good photos this month, but chose this recent one for the fun of our travels. also, how often do i get to be IN the picture ;)
So I'm gonna go with this one from Halloween

However, this one speaks volumes for the end of the month, like coming full circle and sparkling like stars and I thought it was rather unusual:
This one because even though our families have known each other since the two children were about 9 months old it feels as if October was all about their growing friendship.
It was a tough shoot because it was windy but had fun with my daughter.
i think this is my favorite one. i like the setting/mood to it
@eileenmabalot wow, that is so cool! I love how crisp it is.

Here is mine:
Especially when compared to everyone else's work. Thanks all for sharing.

love this of Bruce Springsteen signing something for my stepson the guy filming behind and the journalist on the phone ... all action
and offset with this which really sums up October - blustery and windy

this one because i really like how it turned out and my new DSLR.camera makes me very happy, i could'nt get shots like this with my old POS.
I love sunsets/sunrises.
