Hi all!
For all intents and purposes I'm new here, and I'm trying to get into the habit of taking photos everyday again so that I can fall in love with the art I've been losing to a busy schedule.
Because of my schedule I don't usually have my DLSR with me, so I'm playing around with my iPhone's capabilities. Looking for other users who are using their cell phones a lot too!
And really anyone else, I just need to follow people!
PS sorry if I'm breaking the cardinal rule of posting a repeated topic
The phone camera can often do very nicely. One thing to try to remember is to hold the phone "straight on" to the plane of the subject. That is if you don't want the wide angle effect of leaning verticals shooting upwards. But do try not to "yaw" the phone, i.e. angle it horizontally left or right. Those angles usually look very awkward.
I'm a big believer that the best camera is the one you have with you. Sometimes that's my iPhone. I use my iPhone for probably 10-15% of my posts here.
@bcw I just started adding some Iphone photos to my journey. They are titles IPhone series in the description. I don't always care for the photos my phone takes, but every know and again I get a good one!
I think @lsquared is right the best camera is the one you have with you and that's most likely my phone- used be iphone until the beginning of the year is LG G3 now. I take quite some shots with my phone lately http://365project.org/khirsch/365/2015-05-07
i have a love-hate relationship with the iPhone as a camera... i'm never really happy with the quality, and being a control freak, i really struggle with not being able to control the settings... however, i know that there are apps that allow for some control, and i'm trying to work my way into learning them... much as i love carrying a good camera wherever i go, the fact remains that it is often not practical...
@frankhymus That first shot is absolutely stunning and crystal clear, amazing job. May I ask what kind of editing you did in photoshop? I'm still new to photoshop and trying to figure things out
Shooting with my IPhone 5s, I learned never to zoom. I rather crop afterwards, but the zoom usually destroys everything. I have a pretty nice camera/photo app (tadaa) which takes nicer pictures than what comes on the phone. It also gives me more control, and has editing options.
@transatlantic99 I agree! I don't use zoom at all, not even on my DLSR because I'm just not a fan of the way it changes the composition. Beautiful pictures!
@bcw Just what I would do with any shot I take, iPhone or DSLR. Granted the phones only has jpegs, but still some cropping, tone and color adjustments as needed, sharpening. Glad you like the church shot. I didn't have a wide angle lens on the camera that Sunday morning and so had to resort to the phone in my pocket.
This was, indeed, shot "upwards" so I got the "converging" vertical lines. http://365project.org/frankhymus/365/2015-05-05
This one, on the other hand, I was trying to be very careful to get "straight on" - left-right and up-down. http://365project.org/frankhymus/work-in-progres/2015-07-30
Good phone shooting!
